2019 London Marathon: 5 Special Inspirational Runners (part 1)

The largest marathon of the year has 42,000 runners, with a lot of special people, including five runners that BBC considers the biggest inspiration.

First held since 1981, the London Marathon is one of the six most prestigious marathons in the world – World Marathon Majors, alongside tournaments in Boston, Chicago, New York, Berlin and Tokyo. The record for full marathon running belongs to Eliud Kipchoge (male – 2 hours 3 minutes 5 seconds – set in 2016) and Paula Radcliffe (female – 2 hours 15 minutes 25 seconds – 2003). London Marathon 2019 has 42,000 athletes attending, taking place at 9:05 London time, Sunday 28/4/2019.

Runner to do charity: Police Leon McLeod

McLeod was one of the first three officers to be present at the scene of the terrorist attack on the London Bridge on June 3, 2017. The incident killed five people, including three people walking on the bridge, a police officer and the attacker himself. A 31-year-old secret police officer from London will run a fundraiser for PTSD999, a charity that assists emergency aid workers from a traumatic disorder.

Leon McLeod wants to raise £ 10,000 on the occasion of his run at the London Marathon Sunday 28/4. The total amount of money he took up yesterday, April 26 in London time, was £ 293.

He said he did not experience physical or psychological injuries like many other unfortunate people, but that attack in London that day was always a mark in his mind. He knew many colleagues in his industry were affected by the incident. Emergency relief workers still face tragic incidents every day across the country. The Grenfell tower fire and the 2017 London terrorist attack are the best examples.

Two years after the incident in London were two difficult years for him and many people. He sees the upcoming Marathon as an opportunity for him to raise money for a charity that has helped him and many others have the energy to live.
